According to Act (section 63-1AA), a reportable assault is defined in the following ways:

  • Unethical sexual contact that is done to capture any sort of sexual contact, without seeking the consent of the person.

People who are found with a mental or cognitive disorder, then the resident would be considered to give an informed consent.

How is the case handled?

If an assaulted person discloses about the assault and it is found to qualify for protection under the above-mentioned Act, then the identity of the victim must be protected by the approved provider.

An approved provider needs to fill up the reportable assault form and send it to the concerned department via email. Proper care planning makes sure that the person does not remain victimized and get necessary assistance as soon as possible.

The “aged care complaints commissioner” is a committee that is formed to receive abuse or negligence of complaints of an aged member of an old age home. Also, one can raise concerns regarding the inferior quality of services and care being provided to people.
